PARAMARIBO, Suriname: What was supposed to be a glamorous stage performance by six-time Grammy winning singer-songwriter Toni Braxton ended in a disastrous event in Suriname in the small hours of Saturday morning with angry patrons in the stands shouting for their money to be refunded.

Minutes after the artiste entered the stage in a packed Anthony Nesty Indoor Stadium, patrons realized that they were conned by show promoter Angel Ventura from ‘Events 4 Suriname’, an entertainment bureau operating here.

Security had to rescue US entertainer Trina Johnson, who was allegedly hired to do an imitation of Toni Braxton from the stage and whisked her away in a limousine. During her second song, people started throwing bottles and other missiles to the podium, while some were screaming that this was a hoax and a rip-off.

Subsequently, chaos broke out with angry patrons looting the bars in the stadium, while others rushed for the gates. Part of the stunned crowd just stood there in disbelief, looking at a by then empty stage.

“This is not happening; I can’t believe this,” a female patron said in disbelief, while her companion was tugging at her arm to leave the venue.

“At least this will compensate for my loss,” a man shouted running away from a bar where he grabbed two bottles of whiskey from the shelves.

Meanwhile, police have started a criminal investigation into the case, after scores of disgruntled patrons filed complaints alleging fraud, police spokesman under-inspector Humphrey Naarden said in an invited comment.

So far, no arrest has been made, since Angel Ventura, allegedly from the US Virgin Islands, and his assistant Signet Samson, disappeared after the concert, without paying several local sponsors, organizations, stage managers and artistes who performed support acts.

However, Trina Johnson was questioned by police, but since she could produce a contract stating that she would perform an imitation act she was subsequently released. Also, local assistants during the show were questioned. Tickets for the concert were sold for US$20 and US$25 while VIP-tickets were costing US$55.

Days before the concert people were already skeptical since there was no press conference as usual when popular entertainers arrive in Suriname. The organizer claimed that Toni Braxton was too tired from the flight to do interviews. During an interview, however, Trina Johnson, claiming to be Braxton’s manager, disclosed that the singer was very excited to perform in Suriname.

People were therefore shocked to witness Johnson performing the Toni Braxton act.

Meanwhile the concert has been dubbed the ‘Phony Toni’ show. The promotion campaign, including a TV ad portraying the real Toni Braxton saying that she is coming to Suriname, made people believe that the genuine R&B singer was coming to Paramaribo.

“This is a clear cut case of fraud,” said police spokesman Naarden.

Impersonating someone else with the intent to pilfer something, whether it is money, a good or service from another individual, according to Article 386 of the Surinamese Criminal Code is a criminal offense with a maximum jail term of three years.

Since several of the suspects are foreigners, border crossings would be alerted to be on the look-out. source

Islamic leaders in Malaysia are pressing ahead with calls to ban Rihanna (boo hoo) from performing in the country - just weeks after she promised to tone down her forthcoming live concert. The Malaysian government has strict rules when it comes to female performers, artists are required to cover up from their shoulders to their knees. Barbados just keeps throwing them out. With Bajan songstresses Rihanna, Shontelle Layne and Livvi Franc signed to major recording labels within the last three years, buzz is that Hal Linton, a well-known artiste, has been signed to the legendary Motown Records.

Linton, a four-time winner at the Barbados Music Awards in 2007 for Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Songwriter of the Year and R&B Single of the Year, is signed to a five album deal with the label.

Even though many companies expressed interest in him, he eventually chose SRP Records, responsible for discovering Rihanna and Shontelle Layne, who are signed to Def Jam and Motown Universal Records respectively.

Doyle said Linton, who is also a writer and producer, tightened up his tracks before they began shopping him around to various labels. Sylvia Rhone, president of Motown, heard him, loved what she heard and arranged a showcase for which she invited the entire company, said Doyle. His sound, a cross between Marvin Gaye and John Legend, really impressed them, she said, and they asked to sign him. Benshop is displaying attention seeking behaviour

Mr. Mark Benschop was arrested at Blairmont for obstruction of traffic and was subsequently released. According to reports he had been charged and would have to appear in court. In addition, the police at Blairmont while they allowed Benschop to go, impounded his vehicle.

Benschop was detained while traveling back to the city for what he described as his non-refusal to pay an exorbitant fee to cross the Berbice Bridge. Haha haha Hahaha gosh man like he like freeness or he think people with political affiliations get to joy ride the bridge for free.

But reports are that Benschop left his vehicle parked in an area close to the bridge where there is a flow of vehicular traffic. This was reportedly after he refused to pay the toll and subsequently boarded another vehicle.

Okay according to reports the story goes like this - Benschop arrived at the bridge’s toll booth some time between 8.30 and 8.45 am and he was informed that the toll for his vehicle was $7,000. However, Benschop said, the price list at the booth identified the toll for a vehicle such as his as $4,000. hmmm

“I decided to use the ferry instead since it was specified that only trucks would be allowed to continue using the service… the description on my vehicle’s registration clearly states that it is a pick-up truck but I was denied entry to the ferry,” Benschop explained.
Benschop then decided to return to the bridge and was subsequently told that the toll was $13,600. “I couldn’t understand how this was so because only minutes before the booth attendant had said that the cost to cross was $7,000,” Benschop said. haha Mr. Benschop's car probably grew a few inches or kilograms.

According to Samaroo, many citizens drive goods transporting vehicles as a “luxury item” and are only realizing the grouping of such vehicles when faced with the toll. In the first instance when Benschop would have been charged $7,000, the CEO explained, he would have been undercharged due to human error.

But in all honesty he is driving around town in a swooped up/ pimped out truck lately. Which in my mind spells nothing but trouble. According to Samaroo who phrased it politely , cars are deemed Luxury items.

So I understand why the attendant therefore saw it fit to price the item accordingly. hhahah I just keeping it real.

Transformer Reappears...

The vanishing transformer which was reported missing from the Guyana Power & Light (GPL) was found installed at the New Mall that was opened last December at the corner of Wellington and Regent streets and was subsequently removed.

And the owner of the mall Mr.Ganesh Ramlall, was MIA and couldn't be reached.

The police source said that Ramlall indicated that he had wanted a transformer to purchase and a man had told him he could get one for him. The man subsequently delivered the transformer. "Is why this so called prominent business never sit down to think where in the world this man sourcing his transformers from." hahahha

If you ask me though this Ramlall sounded suspect from day one. But I am not going to get into that now.

The Old (GT&T) and The Restless (Digicel)

The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) says its promotions battle with DIGICEL is being contested on an uneven playing field and that the Public Utilities Commission’s (PUC) showed bias against GT&T according to reports in the news papers.

According to the Stabroek news article last week which I thought was nicely written and not omitting important facts such as .. "And while GT&T Chief Executive Officer Joe Singh is careful to avoid the creation of a nexus between the ongoing monopoly talks between GT&T and government, it is clear that the pending outcome of those discourses has added to the condition of ‘bad blood’ in the telecommunications sector. Government has made no secret of its wish that the GT&T monopoly of the country’s international telecommunications service come to an end – an inevitability which GT&T has long accepted - though critics have taken unkindly to the often public and vitriolic manner in which the administration has prosecuted its concern. DIGICEL, perhaps understandably, has been far from indifferent to the prevailing environment and to the ongoing monopoly talks and has made public its own keenness to see the monopoly come to an end."

At the core of Singh’s argument is the view that GT&T “deserves better” hahahahha. What a cry baby, this is what happens when a company is use to being spoon fed for decades.... they get spoiled rotten. deal with it. Now GT&T is getting competition, so they need to up their services and be fair. Stop complaining and fretting like some old hags.

I just being honest, I have to admit although I am criticizing GT&T, I am and have always been a loyal and dedicated customer. So GT&T reps please don't say that I am being bias too. My bill is now half what it use to be before the Digicel invasion, thanks GT&T I love you guys...... by the way I have to call y'all out on all this copy cat games y'all playing, try be original. Copying promos that Digicel does just makes you look weak, lacking in creativity and worst of all sleazy.

I always advise young ladies not to mess with "Other People Property: OPP" however some people just don't listen so hard ears pickney does feel. A popular young lady around the town was stripped of her dress and left to fend for herself in her "tights"and a missing brassier, by several other young ladies at a night which was suppose to be filled of "elegance". This scandalous affair is the talk of the town for the New Year and it all resulted from the popular young lady's affiliation with somebody's OPP. In this animal world we live in, if that OPP isn't coming to your rescue when his and other felines pounce and shred you to pieces, the "affiliation" is not worth it. I just keeping it real. According to Rihanna Daily, London’s popular X Factor Show has been thrown into “complete chaos” since Rihanna allegedly canceled her appearance.

The show’s bosses are furious that Rihanna has given them so little time to reorganize everything, and they feel rehearsing for her US tour is quite a weak excuse. Rihanna’s people only told them yesterday morning, giving them just two days to reorganise.

But Rihanna’s camp is telling quite a different story.
"She was never confirmed for the X Factor. She was only scheduled to fly in for the Jingle Bell Ball and the Royal Variety Performance and was always going to be flying back to the US yesterday."

And now the X Factor bosses are claiming that Rihanna was difficult and demanding. I not surprised, see always comes off like she is full of herself.

X Factor bosses had already been taken aback by a list of demands from Rihanna that even surpassed those of Britney Spears two weeks ago. Her huge entourage had demanded that metal detectors were set up at entrances to the studios, and no one was to speak to the singer unless spoken to first. Like Mariah Carey and Britney before her, Rihanna was to have sole use of Cowell’s green room as her dressing room. Mr.Steven Anthony, appeared before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Anna Regina Magistrates’ Court to hear his charge of carnal knowledge. Attorney at law, Mr. Haimraj Rajkumar, represented the accused, successfully secured bail. The accused was arrested last Friday by police and placed in custody pending investigations into allegations that he sexually molested a female student. Captain Gerry Gouveia, Managing Director of the Roraima Group of Companies,
~~and apparently drug enforcement officer~~ has called on the government to clarify a recent charge that drugs and people may have been smuggled through the VIP and Executive Lounge facilities at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri (CJIA).

At his post- Cabinet news briefing last week, Dr.Roger Luncheon, Cabinet Secretary said that there had been reports of non-conformity with the established rules governing the use of the facilities over a period of time which may have resulted in “ events that impinge on security, Custom and Immigration operations.” He added that a report pointed out that there may be a lack of cohesion in the roles played by those law en forcement officials, resulting in some amount of exploitation.

At a news briefing yesterday, Gouveia (jack of all trades) whose consortium operates the Roraima Executive Lounge at the CJIA, said the statement had created a measure of unease among the various service providers at the airport and prompted his call for more clarity on the Cabinet secretary’s statement.

“ Accordingly, and apart from calling on Dr. Luncheon to issue an appropriate clarification on this matter immediately, the management of the Roraima Group wishes to state publicly that all persons utilizing the Roraima Executive Lounge are, as a matter of course, subjected to the various security routines and procedures that apply to anyone using the airport.”Jack of all Trades said that it was incumbent on the authorities to thoroughly investigate the claim and to apply the necessary corrective security measures. source

This is an interesting article I came across recently, another popular blog site also posted the article a few days back. But maybe GHARP and other health agencies should use actual people in our community to spread the word about HIV/AIDS prevention and prevalence. "But i mad that Otisha said that business is booming, he got me thinking what our society up to."

I first met Otisha, a tall Afro-Guyanese transvestite prostitute in 2003 when I reported on HIV and Aids in Guyana and Barbados.Back then, the Caribbean had the second highest rate of infection in the world.

The prevalence among female sex workers in Guyana was 27% and 21% for men who have sex with men. Five years later, Otisha is still a commercial sex worker and business is booming for him."I go with lots of clients," said Otisha, who has himself managed to avoid contracting HIV.

When I last visited, men were paying extra money to have unprotected sex.

"You do have some men who pay that type of money to have sex but I'm not going to have unprotected sex," said Otisha.

Government support for HIV and Aids sufferers has improved dramatically in Guyana in the past five years.
"They are promoting more Aids programmes on national television and promoting the use of condoms," said Otisha.

"In 2003/2004 our prevalence was approximately 2.4%. At the end of 2006 we conducted another survey, so we estimate in Guyana, right now our prevalence is about 1.55%," said Dr Singh.

The infection rate among female sex workers has also dropped significantly in recent years.
"There has been a lot of work going on to educate the general public - mass media campaigns, a lot of print media and education material," added Dr Singh

According to the National Aids Programme, about 5,000 people are now in a free treatment and care programme.

"I want to live, so that's why I dress and look fancy and you can't even tell that I have HIV," she said.
However, one of the biggest obstacles for the Guyanese government is how to stop further infections.

HIV is still the leading cause of death among people between the ages of 20 and 49, and the infection rate among commercial sex workers and men who have sex with men remains extremely high. source, source / (audio here)

Celeste David wasn't able to be influential enough to win an accolade award but she sure made a statement last night in that "Hoochielicious dress" she wore. I respect Celeste and her work, I do believe she is a better vocalist and performer when compared to the likes of Timeka Marshall but unfortunately the media and the entertainment business in Guyana are very superficial when it comes to marketing and pushing artistes.

So now it seems as though Celeste trying as hard as possible to look as "easy as possible". Girl don't put your self to that level, the dress looked slutty as hell ( all y'all seeing is panties, belly and boobies). Rethink your stylist next time please and leave the whoring outfits for the actual whores in the industry.

As for Vanilla, God bless her heart, but that outfit didn't do her justice and made her look like the Real " BIG RED" .

Rumour (websites and close friends of both designers) has it that Sonia Noel, who was originally hired as artistic director- but to no surprise- shortly after being chosen she requested GY$3.6 M for herself and two other colleagues. The Accolade Organizers just booted her ass. So like always, Sonia's events always happen to fall on the same dates as Michelle Cole's , so it ain't no surprise when the Money hungry designer organized a show in Bartica the same day as the Accolades. WHAT A COINCIDENCE , that is just damn malicious. source

Accolade Awards descent first attempt

There will always be those haters out there, regardless of how good an event was executed. The Guyana Accolade Awards was a brilliant first attempt in my opinion, this award show will surely give incentives for present artists and aspiring performers in Guyana.

Like all events in Guyana the show began almost an hour after its scheduled start time. The cultural center was moderately filled considering the original ticket prices, who can blame people for staying at home to look at it on TV (for free).

Nigel Hughes and former Miss Guyana Universe Miss Odessa Phillips (with her new found accent, which made Nigel sounds as though he brawling some creole english) were the emcees for the evening. The decor on stage looked good and the show opener was a dance to " Walking on Sunshine" performed by the National School of Dance, I was impressed.

Zareena Ali and Delma Lynch performed along with crazy Charmaine Blackman ( who never ceases to amaze me) and Celeste David (I admit she can sing and I love her to death but she was a hot mess last night in her cheap hooker dress)

The performances of the night were good, the best of the evening in my opinion was Ruth Osman and Trevor John with a Jazz rendition. It was simply brilliant that was a true representation of Guyanese talent at its best. Is why she ain't win no award, Ruth made all the other singers look like joke last night.

They had performances by Eddie Neblett, Rajesh Dubraj, Alabama, First Born, Anaconda to name a few, followed by Adrian and Jomo who closed off the show. I wonder why they ain't allow miss sunshine Timeka to sing her own song ........ even the event coordinator/party planner didn't want to take that risk and allow her to sing live... ha ha

The big winners of the evening were X2 (Adrian and Jomo) and First Born, Lawd only knows why blasted Guyana Times got Timeka on the front page, she only won two awards compared to others who won 4 and 5 last night. Guyana Times displaying face-ism and prejudice right there, just because she cuter than First Born them ... Guyana Times should be ashamed of themselves (lame attempt at selling papers).

GRA on Nigels Supermarket ass....

LAWD GOD, Christmas comes but once a year, so GRA got to ensure they make the best and MOST of it. The GRA received orders from the Office of the Auditor General to conduct a THOROUGH search of one of Nigel's containers. People ain't like see a black man progressing honestly in this country. They are so adamant about this search that officials will search one container per day ..... damn like some body leak some information to them or what. The only grudge I hold against Nigel is his blasted " Sale Aisle" he should realize he not doing use a favor by selling us expired goods. According to reports yesterday morning a 24 year old man decided to take his fathers life, for $200 dollas. I keep preaching times are getting tough. The man is a known drug addict and less than two years ago he was placed in the Observation Ward at the Public Hospital because of death threats he made to his father. Mental illness and substance abuse are both major issuees in Guyana these days the government needs to address these issues and establish better institutions to deal with these matters and offer support to these individuals. "If government ain't got capital to finance such an institution, I recommend that all those "Bad Man" in Gt should come together and build such an institution. Lawd knows is their substance that got dem people mad on the streets, killing people for their next hit." Moreover they may get on the government good side, just in case " Bad Man" get caught they can always claim "they gave back to the community" and plea for leniency..... haha I just keeping it real.

The Peoples Temple survivors took a big step last Tuesday toward healing from the unfathomable mass suicide in Guyana 30 years ago.

About 50 survivors and their families gathered at the Evergreen Cemetery in East Oakland to remember the horrors of Nov. 18, 1978, and dedicate a memorial in honor of those who died.

"This memorial says evil did not win," said Jynona Norwood, a Los Angeles minister who lost 27 family members in the Jonestown tragedy and who spoke at last Tuesday's service. "Even though they're dead, this monument means their cries will be heard from beyond the grave. This will be their final resting place. Justice will be served."

Since the early 1980s, Norwood has been raising money and planning the Jonestown monument. When it is completed, it will consist of seven 7-foot-tall granite panels inscribed with the names of more than 900 people who died in the mass suicide in Guyana. The name of Peoples Temple leader Jim Jones will be left off the memorial.

Two of the simple, monolithic panels were unveiled last Tuesday. Organizers hope all seven panels will be finished by next year's Jonestown anniversary, although they still need to raise funds to finish paying for the $100,000 project.

Six of the panels will be identical black rectangles, and the seventh will be an 8-foot-tall red panel, reserved for the names of the 305 children who died at Jonestown.

When they're finished, the panels will be erected on a shady hillside overlooking the city, with the bay and San Francisco beyond. The monument will be near a mass grave at Evergreen where more than 400 Jonestown victims are buried.

On Tuesday, mourners tossed red carnations on the shiny black granite and moved their fingers over the names. Some wept, while others prayed or hugged their families.

At the service, survivors described the charm and hypnotic lure of Jones, and how he promised his followers a utopia free of racism and sexism. But over time, the encampment 250 miles from Georgetown in the Guyana jungle became a concentration camp, they said, with forced labor, beatings and death threats for those who tried to leave.

Survivors have a responsibility to share their stories to prevent a similar horror in the future, he said.

"We now have the opportunity to think for ourselves, and we can be aware of toxic, abusive relationships," he said. "We have to train our children to think for themselves."

Charles Krause, a reporter for the Washington Post who was on a nearby airstrip when Peoples Temple guards opened fire, killing five, also spoke about the importance of remembrance.

"We still need to learn the lessons of Jonestown," said Krause, who was shot at the airstrip attack. "We can all be deceived and betrayed, on a personal level, as a country, as a community. We need to be careful and mindful of that." source

Mr. Kwame McKoy the event's director (party planner) is said to have ordered a 30ft X 70ft Red Carpet from the USA, ~~probably made in china.~~ The director/ party planner is promising a package that features nerve-wrecking~~, that doesn’t sound too positive at all~~ performances for the awards ceremony and at the after party at which VIP's will have the opportunity of interacting with performing artistes both local and international as well as with the nominees and award winners in the roof garden of the National Cultural Centre. Forgive my ignorance, but i didn't know the NCC had a roof garden. damn I late.

The Award show promises performances from Michelle 'Big Red' King, Timeka Marshall, Carib Chutney queen Girlee Persaud, Rajesh Dubraj and gospel singers Cheryl Maloney, Mariam Williams and Eddy Neblet.

The Award Show will feature Red Carpet interviews from 17:00 hrs followed by a cocktail session. I don't know if they have to get the guests drunk before they have to endure this so called "nerve wrecking" performances.. hahah because from what I know, the mingling and drinking come after the show. AIDS patient Cured........

BERLIN - An American man who suffered from AIDS appears to have been cured of the disease 20 months after receiving a targeted bone marrow transplant normally used to fight leukemia, his doctors said.

While researchers — and the doctors themselves — caution that the case might be no more than a fluke, others say it may inspire a greater interest in gene therapy to fight the disease that claims 2 million lives each year. The virus has infected 33 million people worldwide.

Dr. Gero Huetter said Wednesday his 42-year-old patient, an American living in Berlin who was not identified, had been infected with the AIDS virus for more than a decade. But 20 months after undergoing a transplant of genetically selected bone marrow, he no longer shows signs of carrying the virus.

It has not come. Researchers at Berlin's Charite hospital and medical school say tests on his bone marrow, blood and other organ tissues have all been clean.

However, Dr. Andrew Badley, director of the HIV and immunology research lab at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., said those tests have probably not been extensive enough.

"A lot more scrutiny from a lot of different biological samples would be required to say it's not present," Badley said.

This isn't the first time marrow transplants have been attempted for treating AIDS or HIV infection. In 1999, an article in the journal Medical Hypotheses reviewed the results of 32 attempts reported between 1982 and 1996. In two cases, HIV was apparently eradicated, the review reported.

Huetter's patient was under treatment at Charite for both AIDS and leukemia, which developed unrelated to HIV.

Before the transplant, the patient endured powerful drugs and radiation to kill off his own infected bone marrow cells and disable his immune system — a treatment fatal to between 20 and 30 percent of recipients.

David Roth, a professor of epidemiology and international public health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said gene therapy as cheap and effective as current drug treatments is in very early stages of development.

Even for the patient in Berlin, the lack of a clear understanding of exactly why his AIDS has disappeared means his future is far from certain.

Navy Ship in Guyana (Med assistance in exchange for ???)

The US Navy Ship ( U S N S ) U S S Kearsarge docked in Guyana on Sunday it will be providing medical and dental care to adults and children in Region One, while Regions Three and Four will benefit from construction projects.

The opening ceremony was held at the East Ruimveldt Community Centre, U. S. Ambassador to Guyana, John Jones, said that during the planning stages, the challenges encountered during the last visit by the USNS Comfort were taken into consideration, but the importance of the relationship with the Guyanese people was the deciding factor in ensuring the project continued. (really, something is still telling me that the US is getting something out of this exchange). He added that during that visit, more than 10,000 persons were treated and there was a high level of commitment for the project.

The USS Kearsarge will maneuver along the coast to allow for easy offloading of supplies and equipment, and to facilitate those getting on board. The mission commenced yesterday and will conclude November 22. The team will be providing medical care at the Mabaruma Learning Resource Centre, the Santa Rosa District Hospital and the Port Kaituma Secondary School.

Commander Frank Ponds ( i listened to the interview he gave reporters this week and i am suspect about this guy- but kudos to what they are doing they are helping the sick) pointed out that the Continuing Promise team comprises 1,500 members, who are just as committed as they were at the start of the mission in August. He noted that Guyana is the last stop before the team returns to the United States, having visited Nicaragua, Columbia, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago.

A list of persons requiring surgeries, which was chosen from patients at the clinics, has already been compiled by the ministry.

Others who require surgeries can also be added to the list while open clinics will be conducted at the venues.

The USS Kearsarge mission was initiated in recognition of the shared history and close relationship between the United States and its hemispheric neighbours. Part of the ‘ Continuing Promise’ mission is to enhance collaboration and coordination between governments, health service providers and military personnel.

A female patient in the maternity ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital last evening delivered her baby on the floor after she was reportedly neglected by the nurses who were on duty. " I keep telling y'all about government salaries, it turns even the nicest of angels into aggressive bitches, no lie"

In an invited comment about the issue, Minister of Health, Leslie Ramsammy confirmed that the nurses were indeed non- responsive to the patient calls for help, and that the hospital is taking the necessary disciplinary action against them. "I wonder what actions will be taken considering most of the time the hospital is short staffed to begin with, if they fire them , that means more work for remaining nurses = more bitchy attitudes. hmmmmm decisions decisions."

Eyewitness account: They heard the patient asking for help, the nurses simply refused to assist the patient who was crying out in pain. “ She was neglected and told that she would have to approach the desk if she wanted help,” the eyewitness said, adding that the nurse said “ We will see how you will get look after.” After hearing that statement, the woman in labour made a dash to the desk and lay down on the bed nearest to the desk; crying, she told the nurse that the infant’s head was already out. “ You have to wait, I am putting on my gloves,” one nurse reportedly responded.
The pregnant woman was then told that she would have to sit in the wheelchair to be carried to the delivery room. After insisting that the baby’s head was already out, the patient eased off her bed, causing her baby to fall out on the floor. “ I heard her water bag burst and the loud noise on the floor,” another pa tient said, noting that the infant cried for about two seconds then stopped.

Eyewitness account: The girl was then told that “ If you get a retarded baby then it will be your fault.” She was then instructed to pick the infant up.The eyewitness also alleges that it appears that the patient was beaten with a ruler when she told the nurse that she cannot reach the child.

Over recent months there have been numerous allegations of nursing staff mistreating patients at the hospital and many of them had lodged complaints to the media. The hospital has promised to investigate some of these claims, but no official word has been given in many of the cases. Maybe we should put the Human Rights people on them, in all honesty where are they now. I don't see them defending the innocent now, I really do question the motives of some of its members. But I not gonna start on them as yet.

Clowns caught in GuySuco heist

Yesterday the vagabonds/clowns who tried to rob GuySuco were refused bail after they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with multiple counts of robbery under arms for the $ 17M GuySuCo payroll heist last Thursday. Robert Darr, Lloyd Johnson, Aldren Adonis and Paul Stephenson, Dennis ‘ Anaconda’ Williams and Alfred Todd, were also charged with the GuySuCo payroll robbery.Police said that the men robbed Moud Naraine of $ 17.2 M property of GuySuCo Estate, along with six .38 live rounds valuing $ 20,000, property of GEB ( Guyana Employment Bureau) Security. They are also accused (we know they did it) of robbing two GEB security guards of one shot gun and twelve gauge cartridges. I know if I was one of the GuySuco workers who almost lost their hard earned salary, I would have been on the scene were they were apprehended ready to give them a good ass whopping myself.

Attorney- at- law, Steven Lewis, representing Darr, made an application for bail, noting that it is not sufficient for the prosecution to object to bail, since there is no evidence produced by the prosecution to show that his client will not return to face trial. He noted that it is a speculation on the part of the prosecution to say that his client will not return.

Defence counsel, James Bond, representing Johnson (oh lawd he always representing these hardened criminals) , stated that his client is innocent until proven guilty and also asked for bail be granted. (This line is so cliche, this is what all guilty people say to try and get off)... hahah

TIPS " EARTHQUAKE SAFETY"

You can never be too prepared, considering we do experience tremors from time to time.This goes well with the radio advertisement I heard, making reference to natural disasters and having a disaster pack ready -comprised of food, a first aid kit, water etc.

Everyone should probably read this through carefully so you can actually survive and get to actually use your disaster kit. lol no joke

1) Most everyone who simply "ducks and covers" WHEN BUILDINGS COLLAPSE, are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less
squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the door jamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different "moment of frequency" (they swing separately from the main part of the building).The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them If Possible – It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles, which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Byron Lee Passes

Bandleader of the world renown 'Byron Lee & the Dragonaires', Byron Aloysius St. Elmo Lee died at the age of 73 on Wednesday night, after a two year battle with cancer. Lee was being treated for transitional cell cancer in Miami, Florida and returned to Jamaica by air ambulance on Saturday. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer two years ago.

Byron Lee OD born 27 June 1935, Christiana, Manchester, Jamaica he was also honoured with the 'National Honour of Order of Jamaica' (for his outstanding service to the music industry) only two days earlier before his passing away at University Hospital of the West Indies in Jamaica.

David de Caires passes at age 70

The Editor-in-Chief of the Stabroek News, David de Caires passed away this morning in Barbados where he had gone for medical evaluation. The 70 year old had suffered a heart attack in August and had been hospitalized in Guyana for several days before being flown to Trinidad. He returned to Guyana and had proceeded to Barbados last week for a further medical assessment.

Police have detained an officer from the Central Immigration Department after a quantity of drugs was found on the person of one of her relatives at her Laing Avenue address. Police say they recovered more than 160 packets of marijuana (damn they getting busted for mary j and not even the high value stuff, like white dust, what a stupid bunch) and are looking for a male occupant of the house who managed to run away just as the search was about to be conducted. According to reports, the police, acting on information, raided the Laing Avenue property on Wednesday night. The ranks found two women in the house, including the immigration rank and the drug was found on one of them.

Word on the street is that about 19 persons were arrested tuesday night, in that area. I know if I was living in that area I will make sure to be friendly to all my neighbors, you never know what they will do to your car or house once diwali comes around.. hahah

Domestic violence has been prevalent for decades in Guyana, but now it has managed to manifest itself to another level- evolving from a bruise there and a cut here, to actual murder. Daily we are reminded of this in the newspapers of "boyfriend killing spouse, husband kills wife and then commits suicide". This is simply not acceptable, the way we perceive women in our society is embedded in our culture and this issue needs to be highlighted and addressed. Anjanie Mahdoo appears to be the most recent victim of domestic violence, police have identified her boyfriend as their main suspect.

A seventeen year old was charged for 12 offenses on Monday - Theon Smith appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and charged with 12 counts of robbery, escaping from lawful custody, attempting to commit a felony and breaking and entering. On Thursday August 4 in Georgetown, Smith broke and entered the office of Dr Abraham and stole $ 6000 cash from Ravena Sarju. The prosecutor in the matter stated that on the day in question Sarju was at her workplace when the defendant went into the office through a window and stole the cash. At the time Sarju was in the office and upon seeing the defendant, she hid.
Smith also robbed Vineta Ramchand, armed with a gun, of a quantity of cash on August 8.

On Saturday August 16 in Georgetown, armed with a gun, he robbed Jenelle Andrews of a laptop among other items totaling $ 331,000.

On Monday September 29, also in Georgetown, armed with a knife, Smith robbed Nicola Persaud of seven gold rings valued $ 285,000, one gold chain valued $ 30,000, one gold band valued $ 20,000, and $ 17,000 in cash, all totalling $ 352,000.

It was also stated on Wednesday September 10 in Georgetown, being armed with a knife he robbed Sonia Jupiter of a quantity of items totalling $ 210,000.

He also robbed Shontel Deping, Natasha Nandlall , Nikita Husein, Molly Jeffer, Shellon August, Shannon McLennon, Condina Chesney and Tiffany Johnson.

He was sentenced to two years for escaping lawful custody and four years for attempting to commit a felony, in addition to the sentences for the robbery charges.The sentences totalled 61 years, but will run concurrently, so Smith will be imprisoned for only 15 years.

Jesus....... this long list and he is only 17 years old. This tells us a lot about the society we are living in. Still a teenager and he has a criminal sheet as long as some people's resume. Although I do feel people need to be punished for their actions, sending this teen into prison will not put an end to this country's increasing teenage crime dilemma. He needs rehabilitation, the society has a large role to play in this. If you send this youngster to prison with hardened criminals that is all he will know when he gets out. A young boy who will soon be brained washed.

With this increase in teen crimes Guyana should look into establishing an institution that will foster their growth, teach them a trade and offer them alternatives which would make it possible for them to contribute positively towards our society's development.

Alleged guns importer, Trinidadian Joseph Aboud, has left the country (how did they allow BIG PUN to get away) although a probe into the discovery of a quantity of arms and ammunition at a Regent Street house last month in which he had been fingered is incomplete; Police Commissioner Henry Greene told media. Greene said that Aboud, who was named in a police wanted bulletin as a suspected arms and ammunition importer departed Guyana shortly after he was released from police custody following his detention in connection with the arms find.

Quizzed as to why the Trinidadian, who had been previously charged for overstaying his time here, was allowed to leave the country in the middle of a probe, Greene said that he was properly investigated and there was nothing to charge him for. Okay, then I thought if some one is being investigated or if there is reason of guilt , they are not allowed to leave the country.. that in it self is suppose to be a crime......

Greene claims that Aboud has ties in this country and it would be easy for the police to access him whenever necessary. I am sure it is... they probably have his direct home number in Trinidad for all we know. LOL It is a damn shame when the police commission making excuses for an alleged criminal.

Last night Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh announced that Government has granted approval for the prices of fuel sold by the Guy Oil, will be reduced with immediate effect. Well in my opinion it took them frigging long enough. Prices have been falling over the last two months world wide. Government realized they may have started to look like a bunch of blasted unjust hypocrites. However in my books "better late than never." Because I was about to build one of those man made bicycle/ scotter thingies to get around town. Gas prices are a bitch. No wonder not a lot of people celebrated Diwali, oil and gas prices so high everyone saving up on their Ghee and cooking oil, too.

Notice:
Gas prices are expected to be retailed at $777 per gallon, down from $980; diesel is expected to be $791 per gallon, down from $991; and kerosene is expected to be retailed at $623 per gallon, down from $898. So everyone can go and "gas up" at the cheapest gas station please....... hint all others will follow suit.

According to reports in the Guyana Times Newspaper "Guyanese consumers need not worry that the eggs purchased locally are tainted by melamine, since only a tiny portion of the eggs consumed are imported and Guyana does not import eggs from China." What a relief.... Oh my, did they say "ARE TAINTED". Yeah they did.

This assurance is coming from the Ministries of Health and Commerce in light of the recent discovery by Hong Kong food inspectors that eggs imported from northeast China are contaminated with high levels of melamine, the toxic industrial additive at the centre of the milk scandal in China. The discovery of contaminated eggs in Hong Kong was announced Saturday by the Center for Food Safety, a Hong Kong government agency, which said the eggs had been imported from a farm in the city of Dalian, in north- eastern China. The centre reported that the melamine level was almost double the legal limit for food sold in Hong Kong, according to a report in the New York Times. Oh Great .......

However, Dr Leslie Ramsammy, Health Minister, told Guyana Times that “ our eggs are safe and customers should not be alarmed by reports of tainted eggs in China.” He noted that Guyana is self- sufficient in terms of table eggs, but eggs are imported from the United States for the hatching of chicks.

Nevertheless, the ministry would also be monitoring the market to ensure that the highest standards are maintained. “ We will keep an eye out and monitor the situation to ensure it remains safe,” Minister Prashad said. The two major importers of hatching eggs in Guyana are Edens Hatchery and Bounty Farms. Mind you "I had me some Eden Eggs this morning."

According to the New York Times, the findings, reported over the weekend, have raised new concerns that a far wider array of China- produced foods than previously believed could be contaminated with melamine, which has already sickened more than 50,000 children in China and led to at least four deaths.

NOTICE:
Some of the contaminated milk products were found on the local market, but have since been recalled and customers are being urged to read all labels thoroughly before consumption. Among the product lines tainted are White Rabbit, Mr Brown, Milky Evaporated Milk, Country Maid Evaporated Milk and Polly Milk.

Two men yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson for assault and unlawful wounding charges. Edson Noel, a 23- year- old conductor of Prince William Street, Plaisance, and Mark Hopkinson a 27- year- old minibus driver of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, both pleaded not guilty to the charges.It is alleged that on October 19 in Georgetown, Noel unlawfully and maliciously wounded Mark Hopkinson. It is also alleged that on Sunday October 19 Hopkinson assaulted Noel so as to cause him actual bodily harm. Noel told the court that on the day in question, he and Hopkinson were gambling (I thought gambling was illegal) and he told him that he was finished.

“ I push me hand in he pocket and then he lash me with a bottle and I lash he in he face and he get cut,’’ Hopkinson, in his version of the story, told the court that he had travelled with Noel and had some money for him." Hopkinson said that he would like Noel to compensate him $ 100,000. However, Noel told the court that he only had a $ 19,500, but would get the balance until Friday. Hahahhaha. "Every day they sit idly at street corners ‘ burning the weed’ ( smoking marijuana); as you pass by they will call out to you: " Sis lef' a small change with you fren." The money they collect is often used to purchase ganja and rum and this makes up the daily fare of scores of young men in the low- income settlement at Goed Fortuin, West Coast Demerara.

With opportunities scarce in this market economy, many of the young men are without jobs, but they have families- some with as many as five children. A visit by this newspaper to the community on Monday revealed a kind of hopelessness that is not only a feature at Goed Fortuin, but in many other rural communities across the country. Men and women live their lives with reckless abandon and for every misfortune, they blame it on the authorities or someone else.Only last week there were two murders at Goed Fortuin and in each, the circumstances bear distressing tales of abuse and bullyism.

“ What we see happing [ sic] here is the end product of a culture of drug and alcohol abuse,” a school teacher who asked not be named told this newspaper. “ It is a ganja culture,” the teacher continued, noting that the abuse of the substance is the root cause of the problems the community faces.“ If they don’t smoke it, then they does sell it,” the teacher said, observing that in recent times several strange faces have been showing up in the area."

Well according to Sharma, " I hope the President is watching." Food prices rise, gas prices rise there will surely be an influx of drug pushers, users and an increase in heightened criminal activity.... I thought the Big man had an economic back ground. Workers within the tourism and hospitality industry yesterday benefited from the first in a series of training sessions aimed at improving the quality of service delivered to patrons. If my memory serves me correctly didn't the hospitality crew have a cuss out a few days ago with another tourism group...... interesting.The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has introduced another initiative to ensure high quality service, by launching a monthly training programme, the first of which was hosted by the executives of Le Meridien Pegasus. Executives of the hotel conducted training on hospitality, guest service, cultural diversity and ‘ owning’ the tourism product. As far as i am concerned, job satisfaction will always be low due to meager salaries and when they do manage to train professional and courteous staff, Worker turn over rises... Why you ask, well their asses will migrate to get better paying jobs else where. Oh well, Guyana will always manage to have sour face waiters/waitresses, maids, receptionists and hotel employees.. It has to all start with Job satisfaction, which only comes when job benefits and good salaries are in the package !!! And we know that ain't happening any time soon.

Another person has died while in police custody. Mr. James Nelson an ex-soldier was taken to the brickdam prison after being arrested for disorderly conduct. Mr. Nelson was known to suffer from a mental illness which may have contributed to the confrontation with police officials. There is currently speculation surrounding his death, since varying eye witness reports claimed that Mr Nelson was banging his head against the wall and others are suspecting police brutality. The head of Guyana Teachers Union Mr. Colwyn King said there was no financial statement from the Board for the last seven years. Highlighting the fact , the school spends $362,000 per child every year. Damn that is an expensive garden. Mr.King further claimed that funds are controlled by the college’s head teacher. (haha) I may need to apply for a job at President's College , I wonder if they have any openings. He also claimed that Da Silva was illegally removed from chairing the college’s Parent Teachers Association (PTA) because he did not stand for the corruption at the school. A German national, Hans Metzer, (no comments on this bozo) replaced Da Silva as PTA chairman and King claimed the board colluded with the Education Ministry to remove Da Silva. The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) are currently arguing over the rights of a Tag Line used in a tourism publication for Guyana. With the decrease in tourism due to the worldwide economic instability with banks closing left, right and center, our tourism institutions got bored and decided to attack each other's character and motives. I thought they all had one aim and similar initiatives. This doesn't look good, not even our hospitality groups can get along and they expect to lure tourists with this type of behavior. What a damn shame , no one wants to work together, one slips the others just look on.

Oh Lawd, the man pay off for the last case, now he is back in the headlines again. Why am I not surprised, this is a sign of some sort. How can a Magistrate parade around town without a valid license, insurance on his motor vehicle, no valid road license etc etc ....and the list goes on, too many violations to elaborate on. I was of the impression that in order for someone to become a lawyer they had to study the laws of a country. Apparently he wasn't present for class, the day they taught Traffic rules and regulations. Shame shame just goes to show you , this character of a man seems to think he is above the law. What next Guyana !!! Bandits robbed an ice cream truck of $96,000 in South Ruimveldt. If this continues not even the young children will be able get ice cream delivered to their homes anymore. A nineteen year old allegedly robbed another youth of $240 " dollas" and was set on $30,000 bail. (ha ha) I keep reminding y'all our justice system like a big cesspool of shit. Now the nineteen year old assailant was later confronted by the victims family. And you ask, "How is that possible?" well the idiot was still at the scene of the crime liming with his friends. This youth should be put to do community service, clean drains, pick up paper off road corners, clean bins etc, plus slap his ass with a fine. Then he will think twice about being a bully and trying to rob the innocent regardless of how large or small the quantity of money maybe. Hint, next time consider asking them how much money they have first before robbing them. Sounds like the victim was more broke than the assailant, in the first place. Shame on him for actually taking the 240..... times tuff.

The cambio which was targeted is located in the same building as Chester Fries fast food.
The owner of the cambio Mr. Shameer Mohamed believes that the robbery occurred between Saturday night and Monday morning. According to him, the burglary was executed by a professional gang, because the thieves cut the lines to the premises that would have enabled a security firm to monitor the cambio. According to Mohamed, the burglars gained entry by using a blow-torch to cut open a heavily-grilled window in the top flat. "You know the usual mentality, Guyanese don't have time for months of preparation and planning, that is too much headache. Damn, so you know things are bad and times are hard, when a bunch of Guyanese criminals actually sat down and planned out a strategy before executing this robbery."

It still puzzles me how someone can victimize and rap a child. In Bath Settlement a thirteen year old girl, Kavita Panday was found dead at the side of a canal early yesterday afternoon. Police have in custody a 14 year old boy who was last seen with the young girl. These are very shameful circumstances, society has to play a part in molding youths and teaching them what is right from wrong. this little fourteen year old boy had to learn this sort of behavior (misconduct of women) from some where, it doesn't just appear out of no where.

Vybz Kartel's latest corporate venture, Daggering Condoms, are set to hit the market next week as the initial shipment of the prophylactics arrived this week. The condoms which are marketed under the tagline 'Playsafe, Ramp Ruff Till Game Ova!! ( Oh Lawd) The packaging is nice as seen above a cool black cube which bears the above mentioned tagline and Vybz Kartel's signature. I am not certain whether to be proud of his business venture or to laugh out loud. It was reported that Vybz Kartel will be attending a number of safe sex health fairs, to raise the level of awareness among young teens and adults about the importance of practicing safe sex. I have to give him props for that however I can not keep a straight face, the name and tag line of this condom is hilarious. It is embarrassing enough for teenagers to go and purchase condoms, now you forcing these youths to say please for " a Daggering or Ramp Ruff " please. I certainly hope, today is not the first time the Private Sector has realized Guyana is riddled with Garbage. I was under the impression that Guyana implemented a law combating littering. I guess that went through the window like all other laws in GT. I have to commend them for shedding light on this issues, although I think the have ulterior motives. Morgan Heritage Show tonight

The Morgan Heritage and Natural Black concert is charted for this evening at the National Stadium. The white Elephant is getting a lot of usage these days, at least no one can complain that we not using the Stadium, it has become busier than the airport (CJI). The show will comprise of numerous artists BIG RED, X2, Natural Black and some lil man and Rajesh man.

I will give y'all the scoop after the show. I hope they not planning to come in at NO frigging 2:30 or else. I will get a bitch fit, guaranteed more than cans and cups will be flying on that stage.

I witnessed the unthinkable yesterday, Skinny and those other vagabonds got air time on channel 9's death announcement. Just because of that, "I am all for the banning of death announcements, now." Channel 9 really "Eye pass" all those people who died senselessly by the hands of these vagabonds. Just for a $1000 dollar Channel 9 would stoop that low. That is a certified HOT MESS. I don't understand how Channel 9 can give/show respect, reverence and commiseration to people who had no respect for life or the lives of others. These vagabonds just went around killing others for their own personal and selfish egos. It is unbelievable and I am very much upset and disturbed by this matter. It seems as though Channel 9 should also be investigated for harboring criminals because that is the only conclusion I can come up with, for them to exhibit such scoundrel like behavior. I know I usually criticize how the government handles certain situations but in this case, the Government should issue them a blasted ban, shut them up for a good couple months.
