NEW YORK - Negril Village in Lower Manhattan is set to come alive on June 4th as 'Jamaica's Greatest, The World's Best' reggae festival - Reggae Sumfest - rolls into the Big Apple for the annual New York kickoff. Media practitioners are invited to join sponsors and Summerfest Productions officials in marking the 16th year anniversary of the festival at a private event at Negril Village restaurant from 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday.This year's Sumfest gets underway in Montego Bay, Jamaica from July 13-19, 2008, kicking off with a Beach Party on Sunday July 13th, featuring Classique and Danger Zone Records.
Executive Director of Summerfest Productions, Johnny Gourzong is especially thrilled at this year's line-up that includes some of the hottest dancehall acts on the reggae scene, including Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Voice Mail, Macka Diamond, Vybz Kartel, Harry Toddler, Busy Signal, Wayne Marshall, Elephant Man, Anthony B, Richie Spice, Queen Ifrica, Jah Cure, Tarus Riley and Etana.

Farenheit’s "Hit 'Em" Featuring Sean Paul & Jigzagula

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Jamaican dancehall soul singer Farenheit released his latest single "Hit 'Em" featuring Sean Paul and Jigzagula on iTunes on May 20, 2008. Produced by Grammy-nominated producer and remixer Josh One of Nappy Roots fame, "Hit 'Em" is an old fashioned jeep-beat that marries dancehall melodies to a hip-hop drum track. "Hit 'Em" features Sean Paul as Farenheit’s partner in crime and introduces Sean’s brother and co-writer Jigzagula, producing a sure fire club and radio hit. Jigzagula had this to say, "It was a great experience working on "Hit 'Em" with Farenheit and Sean Paul, we always have great chemistry on stage and on tour. We write lyrics and come up with all kinda chat that becomes our new slang. So it was nice to see an actual recording come out of all the vibes we've built up together throughout the years. Not to mention it’s the first track where I've actually written and performed my own verse, opening up a world of possibilities and ideas for myself as an artist."

It is the region's roving, multidisciplinary, mega arts festival which attracts a wide range of creative artists from various Caribbean and Latin American Countries. CARIFESTA was the culmination of the idea that started in 1970 when participants at an Artists and Writers Convention in Guyana complained about the absence of an outlet to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Region and at the same time give recognition to its outstanding artists and art forms. Usher is a comedian now. I still think he is a fool for marrying that gold digger Tameka. He should have never traded Chilli in, she is a sweet heart and they made such a good couple. But then again, my bad, i forgot she was and is too good for him. What the hell, Usher (cheating ass) and Tameka deserve each other.

The first annual Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago is set to take place on March 26th 2008. The designers who will be showcasing were hand picked, ensuring only the Caribbean's best would be showcased in this inaugural event. Designers such as Cooyah of Jamaica, Meiling and Peter Elias of Trinidad, Noreen Philips & Calvin Southwell of Antigua, Avark of Barbados and of course Guyana's own Sonia Noel. Shanelly Kendall will be strutting her stuff on catwalk. We all remember her as the winner of Guyana's Next Top Model (GNTM). After all the commotion of fainting spells and inappropriate and unprofessional antics from the contestants themselves, Shanelly was deemed the victor in the end. However, I do personally have to question the judging techniques and criterion for picking the winner. I am just saying, she reminds me of a scared fetus, peep this shot, doesn't scream model potential to me!!

Would you believe that Charmaine Munroe aka "Macka Diamond" attended a christian school called “Holy Childhood High School”, with a dream of one day becoming a DJ. Some say music was in her blood, since her father was a prominent music producer. Macka who first called herself “Lady Cham” and I don’t know what she was thinking when she decided to change it to “Lady Mackarel” because which woman y'all know wants to name herself after a damn fish. She finally caught her damn senses and finally settled with the name "Macka Diamond" in 2004 and has since had a number of hits such as “Money-O” and this one in my books should be every freakin Caribbean woman's anthem “Bun Him”. But on the main point of order, as talented as Macka is someone needs to talk to the sisterin about those outfits. You can’t say you are in the music business and wearing this stuff on stage, she is just begging for a dissing."Macka girl, I man advise you to take the Money O after you Bun O your Man O and get a stylist."

"Ri Ri" on the big screen

Rhianna is set to make her big screen acting debut in ‘Mama Black Widow’. She will star alongside a stellar cast which includes Mos Def, Macy Gray, Anthony Anderson and Kerry Washington.Mama Black Widow is the story of a black Mississippi family’s journey from the segregated south to the supposedly more open-minded Chicago in the 1930s.The story follows Otis Tilson’s struggle to keep his family together as they navigate through the big city strife of Chicago. Otis Tilson will be played Brian J. White from ”Stomp The Yard’ and Rihanna will play Carol, Tilson’s sister. Give the girl her props.

Poor, Shania Twain

According to People Magazine, Shania's breakup may have been caused by an affair her husband was having with their long time secretary and house manager. Marie-Anne Thiébaud, 37, worked for Twain and Lange at their estate in Switzerland. The least he could have done, was upgrade not "down grade." I keep telling yall' don't trust another woman in your own house. If you treat her like family, she soon starts to think she is family and then she wants to be family. Please believe !

American Idol.....Finale

I have to admit, I stopped looking at the show all together. David cook doesn't do it for me and the "little one" literally puts me to sleep, with his bed time lullabies. This post is for all those who were wondering who actually won American Idol last night........ DAVID COOK did. I would just like to extend a warm, heartfelt congratulations to the less, boring of the two singers.

Magic Johnson "Cured" ?

Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Jr. played for the Lakers back in the day. Johnson is also well-known for being infected with the HIV virus, a fact which he made public in 1991, causing him to retire temporarily. Since then, he has been an advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention and safe sex. Magic has been living with the virus for more than 18 years, speculation about his health still persists. Doctor's claim, Magic Johnson’s HIV viral load is currently so low it is virtually undetectable in his blood stream. Johnson fights the viral infection naturally with a supplement called Natrol which is marketed in the states as My Defense and is used as dietary fiber in food and drinks. But according to the manufacturer, it contains an ingredient called ImmunEnhancer which the manufacturer claims “can improve the body’s immune system”. Well if that is the case, damn they need to start sharing that ImmunEnhancer like it was flu shots. Shoo I'm just keeping it real.
