Why they lying , based on all that I've read on the AIDS epidemic in Guyana, I could safely conclude that this figure is utterly false. Personally, I think the 2003 statistics which stated 1 in every 14 Guyanese is living with HIV is more accurate and realistic. Bearing in mind, many HIV cases are unreported and people die of HIV related illnesses, which go virtually undocumented. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Health should be commended for boosting the Prevention of the Mother-to Child Transmission Programme (PMTCT) which has decreased the number of mothers transmitting the HIV virus to their infants. In addition, Guyana should be mindful that in the Caribbean, high levels of poverty, unemployment, gender and other inequalities help to fuel the spread of the Virus. Issuing Antiretroviral drugs to pregnant women, who are otherwise unable to obtain them, helps in reducing the transmission of the virus. Anyways let me go straight to the punch, the article seems to be construing information, they claim that Guyana has 13,000 cases, I hope they meant to indicate they were referring to infants alone. Because we all know Guyana got a whopping AIDS rate don't play with numbers, to make it seem as though we ain't got a epidemic in the making. And the scary thing about it is, a lot of people who are infected don't know it, they have multiple partners ,they swing both sides (male and female) and some just Damn malicious and want to punish all those who don't have the virus. A sick world in deed, protect yah self!!! Trust when I say, "I know people who actually cover all those categories listed, I just keeping it real."
