Look Alikes - Guyana's Ashanti

Guyana's very own Ashanti look alike at the mix off event held mid this year. I don't know her name but if any one knows it just drop me a line.

Drug Bust againnnnnn......

Police have detained an officer from the Central Immigration Department after a quantity of drugs was found on the person of one of her relatives at her Laing Avenue address. Police say they recovered more than 160 packets of marijuana (damn they getting busted for mary j and not even the high value stuff, like white dust, what a stupid bunch) and are looking for a male occupant of the house who managed to run away just as the search was about to be conducted. According to reports, the police, acting on information, raided the Laing Avenue property on Wednesday night. The ranks found two women in the house, including the immigration rank and the drug was found on one of them.

Diwali In Alexander Village ( Village Terror)

Passing through Alexander Village tuesday night was like going through a battle zone. Residence have complained for years and every year it is the same thing, police are on site with road barricades but when all is said and done they still can't control the jubilant diwali celebrators (vagabonds). I am serious, it is a mess. check out Kaieteur News Papers they have a picture of an over turned car. Apparently someone thought it would be funny to throw an explosive substance (a squib or fireworks) into a car. Hmmmmm this is taking the meaning of "the festival of lights" a bit too far. Word on the street is that about 19 persons were arrested tuesday night, in that area. I know if I was living in that area I will make sure to be friendly to all my neighbors, you never know what they will do to your car or house once diwali comes around.. hahah

Gantry breaks in Rosignol

Now if the usual wait in line for the ferry isn't enough torture, imagine having to endure an actual technical mishap, like say the gantry having to be fixed. lol lol It is true we all know the crossing is a damn nuisance. Lawd I can just imagine thousands of angry people stampeding trying to get home. Government better hurry up and finish that blasted bridge, it would probably be more economical in the long run to build a bridge and generate revenue from it, just like the DHB. Damn hurry up already.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence has been prevalent for decades in Guyana, but now it has managed to manifest itself to another level- evolving from a bruise there and a cut here, to actual murder. Daily we are reminded of this in the newspapers of "boyfriend killing spouse, husband kills wife and then commits suicide". This is simply not acceptable, the way we perceive women in our society is embedded in our culture and this issue needs to be highlighted and addressed. Anjanie Mahdoo appears to be the most recent victim of domestic violence, police have identified her boyfriend as their main suspect.

Ask Sugar City (They don’t like my best friend)

Questions: I have a male best friend and he's closer to me than my own brother. All my exes have been jealous and want me to choose between them and him. I end up losing them as I can't cut him out of my life. Why can't I find someone to understand me?

Answer: Do you understand you? There's no way he could affect your relationships unless you allow him more intimacy than anyone else. Do you drop his name into conversations with men who don't yet know him? Are you using him as an anchor to stop you soaring too high when you're risking a fall? Why does a new boyfriend need to know about your friend before the relationship's strong enough to include him as friend to you both? Be careful not to use your male friend as a weapon to test the passions of new boyfriends. Next time you have a serious boyfriend, try going out in a group. Or are you actually in love with your friend? Understand yourself first and then understanding of others will follow.

Yongster sent to Jail..

A seventeen year old was charged for 12 offenses on Monday - Theon Smith appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and charged with 12 counts of robbery, escaping from lawful custody, attempting to commit a felony and breaking and entering. On Thursday August 4 in Georgetown, Smith broke and entered the office of Dr Abraham and stole $ 6000 cash from Ravena Sarju. The prosecutor in the matter stated that on the day in question Sarju was at her workplace when the defendant went into the office through a window and stole the cash. At the time Sarju was in the office and upon seeing the defendant, she hid.
Smith also robbed Vineta Ramchand, armed with a gun, of a quantity of cash on August 8.

On Saturday August 16 in Georgetown, armed with a gun, he robbed Jenelle Andrews of a laptop among other items totaling $ 331,000.

On Monday September 29, also in Georgetown, armed with a knife, Smith robbed Nicola Persaud of seven gold rings valued $ 285,000, one gold chain valued $ 30,000, one gold band valued $ 20,000, and $ 17,000 in cash, all totalling $ 352,000.

It was also stated on Wednesday September 10 in Georgetown, being armed with a knife he robbed Sonia Jupiter of a quantity of items totalling $ 210,000.

He also robbed Shontel Deping, Natasha Nandlall , Nikita Husein, Molly Jeffer, Shellon August, Shannon McLennon, Condina Chesney and Tiffany Johnson.

He was sentenced to two years for escaping lawful custody and four years for attempting to commit a felony, in addition to the sentences for the robbery charges. The sentences totalled 61 years, but will run concurrently, so Smith will be imprisoned for only 15 years.

Jesus....... this long list and he is only 17 years old. This tells us a lot about the society we are living in. Still a teenager and he has a criminal sheet as long as some people's resume. Although I do feel people need to be punished for their actions, sending this teen into prison will not put an end to this country's increasing teenage crime dilemma. He needs rehabilitation, the society has a large role to play in this. If you send this youngster to prison with hardened criminals that is all he will know when he gets out. A young boy who will soon be brained washed.

With this increase in teen crimes Guyana should look into establishing an institution that will foster their growth, teach them a trade and offer them alternatives which would make it possible for them to contribute positively towards our society's development.

Guyana's Big Pun out of the country....

Alleged guns importer, Trinidadian Joseph Aboud, has left the country (how did they allow BIG PUN to get away) although a probe into the discovery of a quantity of arms and ammunition at a Regent Street house last month in which he had been fingered is incomplete; Police Commissioner Henry Greene told media. Greene said that Aboud, who was named in a police wanted bulletin as a suspected arms and ammunition importer departed Guyana shortly after he was released from police custody following his detention in connection with the arms find.

Quizzed as to why the Trinidadian, who had been previously charged for overstaying his time here, was allowed to leave the country in the middle of a probe, Greene said that he was properly investigated and there was nothing to charge him for. Okay, then I thought if some one is being investigated or if there is reason of guilt , they are not allowed to leave the country.. that in it self is suppose to be a crime......

Greene claims that Aboud has ties in this country and it would be easy for the police to access him whenever necessary. I am sure it is... they probably have his direct home number in Trinidad for all we know. LOL It is a damn shame when the police commission making excuses for an alleged criminal.

Fuel Price reduction.. REALLYY

Last night Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh announced that Government has granted approval for the prices of fuel sold by the Guy Oil, will be reduced with immediate effect. Well in my opinion it took them frigging long enough. Prices have been falling over the last two months world wide. Government realized they may have started to look like a bunch of blasted unjust hypocrites. However in my books "better late than never." Because I was about to build one of those man made bicycle/ scotter thingies to get around town. Gas prices are a bitch. No wonder not a lot of people celebrated Diwali, oil and gas prices so high everyone saving up on their Ghee and cooking oil, too.

Notice:
Gas prices are expected to be retailed at $777 per gallon, down from $980; diesel is expected to be $791 per gallon, down from $991; and kerosene is expected to be retailed at $623 per gallon, down from $898. So everyone can go and "gas up" at the cheapest gas station please....... hint all others will follow suit.

Contaminated Eggs....

According to reports in the Guyana Times Newspaper "Guyanese consumers need not worry that the eggs purchased locally are tainted by melamine, since only a tiny portion of the eggs consumed are imported and Guyana does not import eggs from China." What a relief.... Oh my, did they say "ARE TAINTED". Yeah they did.

This assurance is coming from the Ministries of Health and Commerce in light of the recent discovery by Hong Kong food inspectors that eggs imported from northeast China are contaminated with high levels of melamine, the toxic industrial additive at the centre of the milk scandal in China. The discovery of contaminated eggs in Hong Kong was announced Saturday by the Center for Food Safety, a Hong Kong government agency, which said the eggs had been imported from a farm in the city of Dalian, in north- eastern China. The centre reported that the melamine level was almost double the legal limit for food sold in Hong Kong, according to a report in the New York Times. Oh Great .......

However, Dr Leslie Ramsammy, Health Minister, told Guyana Times that “ our eggs are safe and customers should not be alarmed by reports of tainted eggs in China.” He noted that Guyana is self- sufficient in terms of table eggs, but eggs are imported from the United States for the hatching of chicks.

Nevertheless, the ministry would also be monitoring the market to ensure that the highest standards are maintained. “ We will keep an eye out and monitor the situation to ensure it remains safe,” Minister Prashad said. The two major importers of hatching eggs in Guyana are Edens Hatchery and Bounty Farms. Mind you "I had me some Eden Eggs this morning."

According to the New York Times, the findings, reported over the weekend, have raised new concerns that a far wider array of China- produced foods than previously believed could be contaminated with melamine, which has already sickened more than 50,000 children in China and led to at least four deaths.

NOTICE:
Some of the contaminated milk products were found on the local market, but have since been recalled and customers are being urged to read all labels thoroughly before consumption. Among the product lines tainted are White Rabbit, Mr Brown, Milky Evaporated Milk, Country Maid Evaporated Milk and Polly Milk.

Obama vs Mc Cain (Dance Off)

I added this just for laughs, since even Guyanese getting in on the election action in the states. I saw last week a bus passing by with a big banner saying vote OBAMA. I don't know if the Bus driver thinks voting for Obama will make it easier for Guyanese to get into the US. Oh well it doesn't hurt to dream..

Miss Sari looking too sexyyyyy

Miss Guyana Sari contestant, Miss Anupa Outar seems to be the crowd favorite or maybe she just has a lot of rich friends and family who can afford to pay for an advertisement on on page 3, page 5 and page 7 of the Guyana Times. Then again on page 15 of Kaieteur News.. Damn i not even going to look at the other news publications, I am sure they covered those too.In one of the pictures she has a typical porn star/ stripper pose, considering officials (devote Hindus) changed the name due to religious sanctity reasons, I would advise her ass to tone down her show. click here. Then again on page 15 of Kaieteur News.. Damn i not even going to look at the other news publications, I am sure they covered those too.

" What the F*** " Hijacking police style

The financial instability/crisis around the world is rubbing off here, apparently it got even the police men flipping out. A police man stupidly- at Gun point and high like a kite (under the influence of lord only knows what) - hijacked a car along with the driver. What the F*** was he thinking. The police man ended up crashing the get away car, while the occupant managed to escape and call some sane and sober authorities for help. And to add insult to injury he was drinking and driving......

A Sore Loser !!

Two men yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson for assault and unlawful wounding charges. Edson Noel, a 23- year- old conductor of Prince William Street, Plaisance, and Mark Hopkinson a 27- year- old minibus driver of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, both pleaded not guilty to the charges. It is alleged that on October 19 in Georgetown, Noel unlawfully and maliciously wounded Mark Hopkinson. It is also alleged that on Sunday October 19 Hopkinson assaulted Noel so as to cause him actual bodily harm. Noel told the court that on the day in question, he and Hopkinson were gambling (I thought gambling was illegal) and he told him that he was finished.

“ I de moving off and he snatch de money and put it in he pocket,’’ the man recalled.
“ I push me hand in he pocket and then he lash me with a bottle and I lash he in he face and he get cut,’’ Hopkinson, in his version of the story, told the court that he had travelled with Noel and had some money for him." I tell he that I going and get de money to give he and then I get de money and give he,’’ the man said.He added that suddenly Noel ran up to him with a bottle and hit him on his face a little distance from his left eye; he had to receive about 21 stitches. When asked if they are still friends, the men respond ed in the affirmative. Hopkinson said that he would like Noel to compensate him $ 100,000. However, Noel told the court that he only had a $ 19,500, but would get the balance until Friday. Hahahhaha. I wonder how this bus conductor getting $100,000 by friday.......... No wonder "Oh lawd I sure the judge will see his ass back in there for theft or soliciting drugs in the near future." A hot ass mess
.

Ganja Abuse ...... ( by the way it is an illegal substance)

This is an article taken from The Guyana Times highlighting the accounts of a villager from Goed Fortuin. "Every day they sit idly at street corners ‘ burning the weed’ ( smoking marijuana); as you pass by they will call out to you: " Sis lef' a small change with you fren." The money they collect is often used to purchase ganja and rum and this makes up the daily fare of scores of young men in the low- income settlement at Goed Fortuin, West Coast Demerara.

With opportunities scarce in this market economy, many of the young men are without jobs, but they have families- some with as many as five children. A visit by this newspaper to the community on Monday revealed a kind of hopelessness that is not only a feature at Goed Fortuin, but in many other rural communities across the country. Men and women live their lives with reckless abandon and for every misfortune, they blame it on the authorities or someone else.Only last week there were two murders at Goed Fortuin and in each, the circumstances bear distressing tales of abuse and bullyism.

“ What we see happing [ sic] here is the end product of a culture of drug and alcohol abuse,” a school teacher who asked not be named told this newspaper. “ It is a ganja culture,” the teacher continued, noting that the abuse of the substance is the root cause of the problems the community faces.“ If they don’t smoke it, then they does sell it,” the teacher said, observing that in recent times several strange faces have been showing up in the area."

Well according to Sharma, " I hope the President is watching." Food prices rise, gas prices rise there will surely be an influx of drug pushers, users and an increase in heightened criminal activity.... I thought the Big man had an economic back ground. It doesn't take a scientist to realize what is going on. When a government starts to put their people first, then and only then will these societal conflicts decrease.

Hospitality anyone ...

Workers within the tourism and hospitality industry yesterday benefited from the first in a series of training sessions aimed at improving the quality of service delivered to patrons. If my memory serves me correctly didn't the hospitality crew have a cuss out a few days ago with another tourism group...... interesting. The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has introduced another initiative to ensure high quality service, by launching a monthly training programme, the first of which was hosted by the executives of Le Meridien Pegasus. Executives of the hotel conducted training on hospitality, guest service, cultural diversity and ‘ owning’ the tourism product. As far as i am concerned, job satisfaction will always be low due to meager salaries and when they do manage to train professional and courteous staff, Worker turn over rises... Why you ask, well their asses will migrate to get better paying jobs else where. Oh well, Guyana will always manage to have sour face waiters/waitresses, maids, receptionists and hotel employees.. It has to all start with Job satisfaction, which only comes when job benefits and good salaries are in the package !!! And we know that ain't happening any time soon.

Suriname and Guyana dispute never ending !!!!

It is a damn shame we can't all just get along. Suriname always wanting everything, that is why they always falling out with the real Dutch ( from Holland) lol. That is why their asses should have never been allowed to enter into CARICOM in the first place, with this damn childish behavior. No where in the world does one country have rights over a bordering river. Who the hell requests that, "Oh yeah !! Suriname does.. they behaving like a bunch of delegating idiots, if you ask me. " I just keeping it real.... they should have tentatively removed Suriname from CARICOM for this unCARICOM (unjust, inequitable and shabby) thing to do. hahah seriously

Rhianna gets Award for " Catchiest Song Ever"

Rihanna achieves yet another major honor! Shit. This time her platinum-selling hit “Umbrella” was named catchiest tune of all time in a new survey. How major is that when you consider all the catchy tunes she had to compete with like “Ring the Alarm” or “Superman that Hoe”?

" RIHANNA’s
hit song UMBRELLA has been named the catchiest song ever in a new survey. The song, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for seven weeks and the U.K. singles charts for ten weeks last summer (07), beat off stiff competition to take the title. Abba’s 1976 hit Dancing Queen came second in the poll, while YMCA by the Village People was awarded third place." boo hoo.

New Video with TI ft. Rhianna - Live your Life

I am sure by month end we will be hearing this song non stop on 98.1. So you might as well get the first scoop on the video. Let me know what y'all think.

Guess Who " Working out "

I am a prominent business man, rumor has it I may have been in the vicinity or maybe even present in the vehicle during the Wolford Avenue debacle. I have a beautiful wife (aka shit puss) and I am not always content with my sexual orientation. However I find time to balance my two life styles and even work on my figure at a Georgetown gym. hmm Any guesses ?

Ex - soldier dead in Lock ups

Another person has died while in police custody. Mr. James Nelson an ex-soldier was taken to the brickdam prison after being arrested for disorderly conduct. Mr. Nelson was known to suffer from a mental illness which may have contributed to the confrontation with police officials. There is currently speculation surrounding his death, since varying eye witness reports claimed that Mr Nelson was banging his head against the wall and others are suspecting police brutality. Too early to tell, but I not saying a word.

(Culture peek ) The Eunuch society

Neither man nor woman, a truly fascinating thing. Over a million people in India are classified as Eunuch or Hijras. They are considered the third sex in many parts of the world. A eunuch IPA: /ˈjuː.nək/) is a castrated man, in particular one castrated early enough to have major hormonal consequences; the term usually refers to those castrated in order to perform a specific social function, as was common in many societies of the past. The earliest records for intentional castration to produce eunuchs are from the Sumerian city of Lagash in the twenty first century BC. They have performed a wide variety of functions in many different cultures such as courtiers domestics, treble singers, religious specialists, government officials, military commanders, and guardians of women or harem servants. In some translations of ancient texts, individuals identified as eunuchs seem to include men who were impotent with women, those we would now call transgender or homosexual and those who were simply celibate.

The English word eunuch is from the Greek eune ("bed") and ekhein ("to keep"), effectively "bed keeper." Servants or slaves were usually castrated in order to make them safer servants of a royal court where physical access to the ruler could wield great influence. Seemingly lowly domestic functions such as making the ruler's bed, bathing him, cutting his hair, carrying him in his litter or even relaying messages could in theory give a eunuch "the ruler's ear". Because their condition usually lowered their social status, they could also be easily replaced or killed without repercussion.

Grand Coastal "Clean Up" campaign ..... nice nice

Once in a while Guyana does surprise you. This group held a cleanup campaign on Sunday along the seawall. This is what Guyana should start to promote among our youths, good environmental awareness and community health. If they can not afford to run such programs, damn use all the blasted "choke and rob bandits" and those " small time petty thieves" to do community service and clean up Guyana rather than using up tax payers money fattening them in jail.

Beyonce vs BC Jean

Not only in GT, they got thiefing and copy right battles - Beyonce is scheduled to release her double disc album titled “I Am.. Beyonce/I Am… Sasha Fierce” dropping on November 18. Beyonce also debuted her Sasha Fierce alter ego, who looks like a crack head with a very bad weave…She apparently coped this song from BC Jean to put on her album. I am sure she had to pay a hefty sum for the song. Have a look and a listen, choose which version you prefer.

Kids First Fund ....... really!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Varshnie Singh a few years back, at that time she had just gotten married to "Old Boy". The location was at a mutual acquaintance's house. She was very polite, intelligent and eloquent however through the years it has been rumored, that maybe she hasn't been putting the Kids first, like she preaches. A hint to the wise, the treasurer of KFF better keep a tight knit on that money. I just saying ...

LIAT, 52 years and still surviving

Guyana has gone through more airline companies than probably any other country. The life span of Airliners in Guyana is probably a year, if that much. It is a wonder LIAT is still afloat. Maybe Universal Airlines, North American, Zoom and all the others should take a crash course (no pun intended) from LIAT. Happy 52 LIAT....

"Kitchen Garden" President's College

The head of Guyana Teachers Union Mr. Colwyn King said there was no financial statement from the Board for the last seven years. Highlighting the fact , the school spends $362,000 per child every year. Damn that is an expensive garden. Mr.King further claimed that funds are controlled by the college’s head teacher. (haha) I may need to apply for a job at President's College , I wonder if they have any openings. He also claimed that Da Silva was illegally removed from chairing the college’s Parent Teachers Association (PTA) because he did not stand for the corruption at the school. A German national, Hans Metzer, (no comments on this bozo) replaced Da Silva as PTA chairman and King claimed the board colluded with the Education Ministry to remove Da Silva. Corruption left right and center....... I wonder if they have any vacancies.

"Miss Guyana Sari Pageant " formerly known as Miss Diwali Pageant

Pageantry is in the air once again. Every blasted month I notice that a new pageant pops up, although Miss Diwali is a must, every October. Devote Hindus after years of supporting this pageant suddenly regarded the title as violating sanctity. Well when there is nothing to do, create a problem. hahah So for all the readers out there, the pageant is now called The Miss Guyana Sari Pageant. What a waste of space in the newspaper, they could have printed something more becoming or interesting than this shit.

Tourism Groups Bump heads....

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) are currently arguing over the rights of a Tag Line used in a tourism publication for Guyana. With the decrease in tourism due to the worldwide economic instability with banks closing left, right and center, our tourism institutions got bored and decided to attack each other's character and motives. I thought they all had one aim and similar initiatives. This doesn't look good, not even our hospitality groups can get along and they expect to lure tourists with this type of behavior. What a damn shame , no one wants to work together, one slips the others just look on.

"Wire Tapping" coming soon near you...!!!

The Interception of Communication Bill is all the buzz this month. Word on the street is that this bill will pave the way in fighting crime and combating Guyana's thriving drug lord population. Hmm okay interesting. I have to admit it would be a vital tool when placed in the right hands. But on the flip side let's be realistic, Guyana is full of corrupt souls and even those who are pure hearted will be faced with the "dolla temptation." Money talks, so I have to say i have doubts about this whole wire tapping thing. All those under cover top officials will have to watch out with their conversations now, you never know who is listening. hahah.

Guyana Fashion Week

Hmmmm....... this is when you know for a fact the designer ran out of inspiring, creative designs and decided to run with what ever came to mind. I don't know if she stumbled across one of her daughters bedtime books, but lawd only knows what in the world she was thinking when she made this outfit. Doubt whether any idiot would purchase this piece. Then again halloween around the corner. A hot ass mess indeed..

Britney's new video

Just when we thought Britney was a total crack whore. She comes back and lands a chart topping hit called " Womanizer" .Britney Spears' new single Womanizer debuted at number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week. This week the track zoomed all the way to number one (1) giving Spears her first Hot 100 chart topper in almost ten years. Not since her number one Billboard Hot 100 hit Baby One More Time in 1999 has Britney Spears scored another chart topper.
Womanizer is the latest single from Spears' sixth studio album Circus which is due on December 2.

" Single Ladies" (Put a Ring On It)

Check out Beyonce's new video. Since we are always talking about Rhianna non stop. I decided to give my old girl Beyonce a chance.

Chief Labour Officer snoozing

How ironic, the Chief Labour Officer is displaying an unorthodox style of listening. I gather either he was exhausted from a hard days work, maybe he simply forgot he was not in his own office or the Minister's address was boring as hell. Well I am glad to know at least some one is working so hard in local government, that the only nap time he can get, is during a convention. lol I wonder what the white folk, next to him was thinking. How embarrassing..... he surely outlined what is happening with our labour force in Guyana, "over worked, under payed, exhausted, dwindling job satisfaction and next to nothing benefits." damn i would be forced to sleep on the job too...

Guyana Accolade

The big day is almost a month away. I guess the red carpet will be laid and the media men/women will be there. Fashion icons , models , designers, tv personalities and all the wanna be talents and no names will try to get a dose of the action. Have a look at some of the categories. The one that stood out was " Best Groovy Soca Single" category. I just saying .. this category sounds a bit cheesy. click here to see a rundown of the remaining categories up for grabs on November 20th. Props to the web page designer. Word of advice "The Music Awards of Guyana" (TMAG) is a bit too wordy, they should have stuck with "Guyana Music Awards" (GMA's) and run with it. oh well maybe next year they will re brand it.

Gilhuys is back on the hot seat.

Oh Lawd, the man pay off for the last case, now he is back in the headlines again. Why am I not surprised, this is a sign of some sort. How can a Magistrate parade around town without a valid license, insurance on his motor vehicle, no valid road license etc etc ....and the list goes on, too many violations to elaborate on. I was of the impression that in order for someone to become a lawyer they had to study the laws of a country. Apparently he wasn't present for class, the day they taught Traffic rules and regulations. Shame shame just goes to show you , this character of a man seems to think he is above the law. Gilhuys is setting a very bad example he shouldn't be allowed to pass judgment on others, if he himself doesn't know how to adhere to the simplest of laws.

Alicia Foster's death

Speculation on the death of a 26 year old EPA employee is the buzz for this week. The young female apparently was gunned down in front of her home on sunday night after returning from a wake. It is really sad to see such violence in our society. Her friends apparently have set up a blog site in her memory, have a look click here. Times are getting tough in this society.

Back In Action !! Finally

We are back in action this week. Sorry for the delay.
